One Month In! - An Update
I can't believe we are just about one month in to the school year already!  How is your school year going?

Keegan (11, 6th) is enjoying SALT this year and on every Wednesday after SALT his grandmother, my mom, Marmi, picks him up and takes him out to lunch for some much needed grandmother/grandson time! This is something she has done with each of my boys.

Baseball is also in full swing, many rain outs but still have about a month to go for fall ball.  Keegan enjoys first base and pitching the most. And our Tuesday homeschool hikes have started up again. It’s great to be out in nature with friends.

Brady (16, 11th) is really coming to his own with Echo. He has his permit and drives there! I’m thrilled that he’s making good friends, which  he's been checking out different youth groups in the area with: East Brandywine Baptist Church (EBBC, Keegan also goes here alternating with Awana at Calvary Chapel), Calvary Fellowship and Gateway Church.  I think I'm thankful they are all on the same day as he's probably want to go to all of them! He's still learning time management with getting his schoolwork finished in time.  Lol. I guess that's nothing new for a teenager, new school, new routines.

Brady is also in fall ball that also has about a month to go.  Unfortunately after this season, he will be too old for Little League. unless he decides to check out Legion. As you can see from the pic below, he wasn’t thrilled to be catcher for the first time in years!  Some of his Echo friends are playing volleyball so he may look into that after the new year.

We had my favorite field trip of the fall already: Cherry Crest Farm! Unfortunately Brady had to work, but Keegan and I had fun doing the obstacle course, giant slide and the corn maze.  We met up with SALT and Echo kids and parents.
That's all the fun stuff, how's the actual school work going? Well, isn't this all school? Learning how to manage time and get along with others? Problem solving to get out of a corn maze? Yes, we are doing other work as well. Tapestry of Grace has kept us busy with learning about Charlemagne, King Arthur, castles and the drama with the various Popes and Emperors in the Middle Ages. We also made a model cell out of jello and candy for science and wrote about Sherlock Holmes in IEW.

Math has been mostly review with a little intro of variables.  We are slowly getting into pre algebra, one of my favorite subjects to teach!

Lastly, Percy Jackson is still a favorite in the Crowe Household! We just finished Mark of Athena and plan to start House of Hades this week. This is the second to last book in the series and then we will move to The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
One last thing to mention, Keegan got a haircut yesterday! And it wasn’t planned for him to get so much off but thankfully it will grow back!
Hope you have had a great start to the school year and are well into a groove that fits your family!

Allison

Hey there! I’m Allison, a homeschool mom of 4 boys, married to Peter. Three of my boys have graduated, and I still have one in high school.

We live in a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Life here is beautiful, a little loud, and full of wrestling matches. We’re definitely a work in progress, and that’s real life.

A little about me and how I got here...

I started at Villanova studying accounting, then ended up working as a computer programmer building websites in the mid-’90s. A few years later, I became a stay-at-home mom and never looked back.

My wellness journey began in my 20s when I struggled with endometriosis. It opened my eyes to how much our daily choices matter.

I started with food, then slowly learned more about what supports a healthier home and body.

That journey grew into a passion for helping other moms see they don’t need to do it all. They can start small and grow.

When my oldest was little, he once sprayed Shower Power in his mouth. Let’s just say Poison Control and I were a little too familiar back then.

That moment stuck with me.

Even though I had already started making changes with food, it took me longer to connect the dots between cleaning products, toxins, and everyday wellness.

These days, I’m navigating life as a homeschool mom, college mom, and now a mom whose two oldest boys are married. We also have two girl poodles, and they help balance out all the boy energy around here.

I love teaching about real life wellness, simple swaps, fitness, and homeschooling. I also love whole foods, exercise, pickleball, and reminding moms they need some alone time before starting the homeschool day.

You can’t teach from an empty cup.

Fresh milled flour has also become a big passion of mine. I love baking from freshly ground grain, and I believe a lot of what bothers people is the processing, not just the gluten itself.

I’m passionate about helping homeschool moms 35 and up create a calm, fun, organized home, reduce toxins, and feel more confident about what really matters. You got this. Let’s take it one step at a time.

If that sounds like you, I’d love to help.
