Reflecting on Holiday Memories and Setting Intentions for the New Year

The holiday season is a whirlwind of activity, often filled with cooking, cleaning, family gatherings, and cherished traditions. As 2025 comes to an end, it's the perfect time to reflect on those festive moments and set our intentions for a peaceful and purposeful New Year. In this post, I'll share some of the highs and lows of my holiday experience, what I've learned, and how you can use these reflections to make the most of the New Year.

A Whirlwind Holiday Experience

This past Christmas was as bustling as ever. It all kicked off with Christmas Eve, which saw me bustling about with cooking and cleaning, only to rush off to join my family for dinner at my mom's house before heading to church. It was such a bummer that as we kept up with our yearly tradition of driving around the neighborhood to admire the Christmas lights, I got a massive headache. It was so intense that my evening ended much earlier than planned. I just hit a brick wall. Thankfully, my husband, Peter, stepped in heroically and wrapped all the gifts!

Christmas morning thankfully greeted me with renewed energy, aided by the early preparations of sticky buns made the previous day—a highlight of our morning tradition. The day then blurred into making more desserts, setting up for visiting relatives, and spreading the festive cheer of gifts and games. The pace never slowed, and it wasn't until everything was tidied away that I truly stopped and relaxed. The games we played in the evening were a delightful cherry on top.

Finding Balance Amidst the Chaos

After such an eventful start, the following day provided a much-needed contrast, blending relaxation with casual fun. While part of the family enjoyed indoor golf, Keegan and I took to the pickleball court. A trusty takeout meal for dinner rounded off the day perfectly. Just when you think the festive events have wound down, our family gathered again the next day, allowing me to contribute with my favorite bakes: rolls and desserts, similar to what I provided on Christmas Eve.

Reflecting on these experiences, I’m filled with gratitude. Sure, it was hectic with last-minute preparations and the constant whirl of family activities, yet those moments remain truly precious. I'm reminded of the presence of Jesus in our lives during this holiday and throughout the year. A quiet house in these days before New Year's Eve might seem sad at first, but it's a sacred time to recharge, remember, and prepare for what lies ahead.

Setting Intentions for a Fulfilling New Year

As we draw inspiration from the past, it's important to set clear, meaningful intentions for the New Year. Here are a few pointers that can help focus your mindset for 2024:

  • Reflect on Achievements: Look back at what you've accomplished this year, big or small, and celebrate those victories.
  • Prioritize Family Time: Just as you cherished moments with loved ones during the holidays, plan regular gatherings or simple family nights throughout the year.
  • Embrace Balance: Balance the busyness with rest. Remember the joy of a bustling home and the tranquility of solitude.
  • Continue Traditions: Keep the cherished traditions alive, but don't be afraid to introduce new ones that echo the needs and desires of your family.
  • Place Faith at the Center: Remember how faith guided your year, and ensure it holds a central place as you step into the next one.

A Personal Celebration

This holiday's reflection has been one of joy, acknowledging the busy moments while cherishing the quieter days that followed. The laughter, love, and, yes, even the chaos, make the season vibrant and meaningful. The activities and connections we've fostered are true gifts, feeding our spirits and lighting our path into the New Year. Our two girl poodles basked in the holiday warmth too, their wagging tails echoing the joy in our hearts.

For those of us who thrive on connection and energy, the stillness of post-holiday time can feel like an emotional tug. Yet, it's this very contrast that refreshes and uplifts us, preparing our hearts for new memories to come.

As we step forward into 2026, let's hold onto these insights and lessons. Make space for joy, peace, and the simple pleasures that make life rich. Here’s to crafting a year of purpose, connection, and love.

Allison

Hey there! I’m Allison, a homeschool mom of 4 boys, married to Peter. Three of my boys have graduated, and I still have one in high school.

We live in a suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Life here is beautiful, a little loud, and full of wrestling matches. We’re definitely a work in progress, and that’s real life.

A little about me and how I got here...

I started at Villanova studying accounting, then ended up working as a computer programmer building websites in the mid-’90s. A few years later, I became a stay-at-home mom and never looked back.

My wellness journey began in my 20s when I struggled with endometriosis. It opened my eyes to how much our daily choices matter.

I started with food, then slowly learned more about what supports a healthier home and body.

That journey grew into a passion for helping other moms see they don’t need to do it all. They can start small and grow.

When my oldest was little, he once sprayed Shower Power in his mouth. Let’s just say Poison Control and I were a little too familiar back then.

That moment stuck with me.

Even though I had already started making changes with food, it took me longer to connect the dots between cleaning products, toxins, and everyday wellness.

These days, I’m navigating life as a homeschool mom, college mom, and now a mom whose two oldest boys are married. We also have two girl poodles, and they help balance out all the boy energy around here.

I love teaching about real life wellness, simple swaps, fitness, and homeschooling. I also love whole foods, exercise, pickleball, and reminding moms they need some alone time before starting the homeschool day.

You can’t teach from an empty cup.

Fresh milled flour has also become a big passion of mine. I love baking from freshly ground grain, and I believe a lot of what bothers people is the processing, not just the gluten itself.

I’m passionate about helping homeschool moms 35 and up create a calm, fun, organized home, reduce toxins, and feel more confident about what really matters. You got this. Let’s take it one step at a time.

If that sounds like you, I’d love to help.
