The Fall Rhythm I’m Still Figuring Out
I thought by October I'd have my fall rhythm figured out by now.
Ha.
I don't.
And honestly, I'm starting to think that's okay.
September always feels like a fresh start. The calendar fills up, routines begin again, and I have all kinds of ideas about how I'd like the new season to look.
Then real life happens.
Some things fall into place. Other things don't work quite the way I pictured them. And a few of those plans I was so sure about in September? Well, they've already disappeared from my radar. 😂
I'm learning that I don't have to treat every change in the season like a project to manage. Sometimes I just need to pay attention to the life I'm actually living and make a few adjustments along the way.
When the plan meets real life
I love this time of year, even tho spring is my favorite time of year, I do enjoy fall. The cooler air, the changing leaves, getting outside when the weather is just right. It's also easy to start filling the calendar and thinking about all the things I want to do before the holidays sneak up on us.
But I'm learning that I don't need to turn October into a big project.
I don't need a brand-new routine for every part of my life. I don't need to suddenly become the person with the perfectly stocked pantry and a color-coded calendar. (though I have thought about this!!) And I definitely don't need to feel behind because the season doesn't look like the picture I had in my head.
Sometimes the best thing I can do is notice what's working, make a small adjustment where it isn't, and keep going.
Let the season unfold
Maybe that means getting outside when the weather is beautiful instead of waiting for the perfect time. Maybe it means keeping meals simple when the week gets busy. Or maybe it means letting a few things wait because there's only so much time and energy to go around.
Not every week needs a reset. Not every routine needs fixing.
Sometimes we just need to give ourselves permission to live the season we're actually in, instead of chasing the version we thought we'd have by now.
I'm still figuring out what that looks like for me this fall, and that's okay. I don't have to have it all sorted out by mid-October. Neither do you.
How is your fall really going right now? Is it settling into a rhythm, or are you still figuring it out, too?
